five year plan

1. I plan to graduate in May 2012. With my degree I plan on researching and improving my skills in both printmaking and ceramics.
2. I will have another job to pay bills and live off of, but also plan to have an internet site up in running for commissioned based work as well as older studies and projects.
3. I want to allow time for myself to work on research and artwork at least three days of the week in order to keep up a good flow of work.
4. If I stay in Austin I plan to run a stand at First Thursday every month.
5. I want to eventually build up my body of work to have a solo show, auction based.
6. My goal within five years is to have a working studio that produces work to help supplement my regular job income in order to become successful.

Artist Bio and Statement

ARTIST BIO/ STATEMENT:

Alex Mader was born in Dallas Texas November 22, 1989. He was influenced by his grandfather who had a deep passion for art. Alex’s body of work has immensely grown throughout several mediums and styles. This compilation of artwork represents the knowledge and growth throughout Alex’s three years at St. Edwards University. His ceramics have been manipulated, formed, and changed in very different ways. Through work of series and studies Alex is able to create and recreate vessels varying in size, style, and color. The sculpture presented uses knowledge from both life drawing and other research of muscle studies and skeletal form. The paintings draw upon the dream state that allows the mind to express the unconscious feelings and desire typically avoided. Color, Form, and Space have been taken into account with each of numerous pieces. Alex’s creative process and successful use of several mediums is evident through the massive research and development period at St Edwards University. He will be graduating St. Edwards University in May of 2012 with a BA in Arts

Alex’s current project uses intaglio prints and three dimensional sculptures to portray the need for equilibrium of relaxation and work. The balance between your job and leisure is a hard concept to measure for most anyone that has bills and other expenses to think about. The works explore the over use of either and how it can trap you financial as well as mentally. Boxes, webs and other claustrophobic elements are incorporated to show the gravity of falling too much out of line. It is also very much a study of life in how people act under these situations.
